Why Why and Why not

Age of questioning

Why are you married and I am not ?
When will I get married ?
Why everyone gets married ?
Why can I not marry Papa or Mama or the neighbor ?
Why should I write (any alphabet) ?
When will you die ? (More on it in a separate post)
Where do people go when they die?
How did the doctor pull me out of your tummy ?
If God gave me (away) to you, is it because I was very naughty when I was with him?
Why can I not drive/cook/clean the bathroom ?
 Why do we potty ?
If there is blood inside my body, why am I not hearing the "kulu kulu" sound(blood moving sound) when I run or jump?
Why are some fair and others dark ?
Why does it get dark in the night?

Vocab

Wanted to pen down the words I get to hear from Sid these days
Meanwhile, can you do this for me mama?
Probably.  Whenever there is no time to play
Realize  When something spills or falls
Annoying Any noise that he doesn't create
What was I telling ?? When he forgets what he was talking about.

Last 3 months

When I started the blog, I really thought it would be easy to post one entry a week. How grossly did I underestimate my laziness! No excuses. Pure unadulterated lazing. Planning to be more regular here. No.. seriously!
Quick update on the last 3 months as I remember it ..
1. Made a trip to Coorg with friends in August. Cold. But had fun playing lots of dumb charades. Sid loved the play area.
2. Kept a simple Golu at home in October. Invited close friends over and had a good time socializing. Sid was explaining the dolls to guests.
3. November was spent mostly in Tuty with parents. Fell sick and recovered. Sid had his first ear infection.
4. Back home in December and enjoying the cold.

What is your problem?

Me: (For the nth time): Isn't it time for you to sleep ?
Sid: (Exasperated): What is your problem mama? You tell me, I will fix it.
Me: What ??
Sid: I will sleep when I am tired. Not now.

As a learning I have stopped nagging him to get to sleep. Same with drinking milk. He tells me to keep his horlicks on the table and he will drink it "whenever he wants" (in his words). Fair enough. Sometimes the morning milk gets drunk in the afternoon or the evening milk in the night. As long as the milk goes down the gut.

Back to School in June

While I was (the worrier that I am) busy worrying how long it will take Sid to settle in the new class, he surprised me by happily going to school. In fact he was asking why he cannot go to class when he was down with cold. Although he is in a new group with a new teacher(aunt) he keeps telling that he is in his earlier class with the same old teacher. Guess, it will take a while for him to get used to the new class.
As he grows I can see myself growing out of my anxieties too.

To Munnar in May

We made a trip to Munnar this May. It was a nice long drive. We went with one of our friends who also had a girl of Sid's age. Sid enjoyed the company. Papa was busy driving up and down to Munnar - 14 hours each. The love for long drives!
It was a perfect climate and decent food at Tall trees(where we stayed). Unfortunately our friends had to return the very next day due to a family emergency. We were feeling down for a while .. but then Sid makes any situation lovely. We discovered his love for table tennis and photography there. He took couple photos of us and it was fun just playing with him all day. He kept asking why we came to Munnar. Tried telling him it was a break from our routine and relaxation et all.  But he did not seem to quite get it.

We drove to near by places wanting to take Sid to elephant rides and boating. He clearly did not want to do any of it and just enjoyed the drive.

For someone who lives and loves every moment he must be wondering why parents need to travel 14 hours to find happiness and relaxation. Am I right Sid ?

Walk

Have started walking regularly in the morning. Its been a month now and feels good. For the first time in years I could jog nonstop for more than 0.5km. I know, it is no big deal .. but for someone who could not run for 10 seconds till last month it is an awesome feeling. Thought of recording it.

Uninterrupted old hits on radio is a motivation to walk too.

March-ing ahead

You have started doing the slide on your own - considering that you were very scared of it till last month
You ride the cycle almost like a pro.
You advise me to "not touch the washing machine when it is running".
You have more pushing time with friends
You have so easily moved on from your baby potty to the regular toilet.

You are growing up too quickly Sid :)

Trip to Kannur

First week of March had us travelling to Kannur as my mother-in-law was not keeping well. Thought of staying back to help her out. I wasn't sure if it will be possible with an active Sid around. But Sid was very cooperative to say the least. He had his food on time with no fuss played by himself and slept well. He was very much independent.
You surprise me always, little one. Sid enjoyed the stay. I too had a very peaceful relaxed time. Once my mil was up and fine she pampered us so well :) that I am planning to take another vacation at my in-laws.

Sid turns 3!

The day was spent mostly outdoors doing Sid's favorite activities. Morning at monkey maze and lunch at his favorite restaurant. Then a ride on the Metro and toy train with best friend and family. Evening ended with a simple cake cutting with two of his close friends. They played and had fun. Sid was so excited all day that he kept asking "My birthday has come?? really?" Only after he cut the cake he was sure that it was his day. It was such a pleasure to see him happy and enjoying himself. Wishing you a very happy year ahead Sid and all happiness all through your life. The day you landed into our life is a day to celebrate! Have never felt so much happiness seeing someone happy. You have made me a happier and better person. Thank you Sid!

What will you do?

After reiterating the need to keep the front door locked, I asked what Sid would do if  a burglar were to walk into our house.
Unabashed my angel said (verbatim) "Save myself and run away!"

I am still wondering where he learnt it.

Boy girl short

My little boy sometimes says he is a girl. Wondering if he was confused, I started this conversation

Sid: I am a girl, I want a ladies watch.. (having learnt about men's watch from his grandpa)
Me: But aren't you a boy ?
Sid: (Reluctantly) Hmm.. yes
Me: Who is a girl in our house?
Sid: (Gave it a thought and happily said) You mamma..
Me: And Pappa ?
Sid: Boy

Happy with the progress we continued the game with other family members and neighbours.
Me: What about the next door X aunty ?
Sid: Girl
Me: What about the other Y aunty ?
Sid: Also girl (He uses the word "also" so perfectly)
Me: And your favorite aunt at school ?
Sid: Short !
Me: !!??

I love you mamma

The way you say it, especially with the angelic smile, melts everything around. Seriously, how do you do it boy?

Good demon

Exasperated with my little one's behavior, I asked why he was being so naughty. He said "Sorry mama (he is so good at it now) I will be a good demon". Good demon?? He got me laughing in a second.
Thanks to the regular dosage of Luttapi (bad/good demon) stories from magic pot, his favorite weekly.

Omni wearing glasses

Remembered this cute little incident that I thought should be recorded. This happened when Sid was around 18 months old and getting better with his vocabulary. He pointed at a white omni van and said "car has kannada(glasses)" It took a while for me to see through his eyes and note that the white omni did look like  it was wearing black glasses(bumper) on its eyes (headlights).
Sid, you do make me see everything with a fresh pair of eyes. Now I don't fail to observe the colorful butterflies, trees, painted houses, cars or cranes/diggers/tankers/trailers all thanks to you. Makes me wonder if they even existed before you were born. Or may be I should say, did I ever 'live the moment' to see and wonder at them before you came into my life.

New Year Happenings

New Year dawned with Sid wishing Happy New Year to everyone and anyone for almost a fortnight :) and our visits to the eye doctor. First it was the Papa with an eye injury, next Sid with a cold- eye infection and then self with an allergy. Luckily we got over it all with vision intact :)
End of January saw Sid having a nice time when his grandparents came. Loads of home made mysore-pak ensured that our (my?) "health" was improved.
Random musing -You slog for couple of months to lose a couple of kilos, your mom arrives and sees that you gain 4 in 4 days! ...Phew!

Gym

I was the kind who hated gym. Why would someone want to use machines to work out? A walk in the park or a zumba/aerobics session would do ...
