A Cut and a Stitch

Did I mention Sid had started taking swimming classes once again this year ?

Couple of weeks back he had an accident at the pool and had to be rushed to the hospital. He had to get his chin stitched up. But he is fine now and raring to go back to the pool. Guess, I am the one recuperating from the shock.

This happened as he was climbing out of the pool. A foot slip and the next thing I see is blood all over from the deep gash on the chin. I realized immediately that he would need stitches so rushed to the nearest hospital. Luckily there was a pediatric surgeon available. Papa joined us from office. The doctor said as the wound was quite deep he will have to be completely sedated before suturing - which requires hospital stay. It was not an easy decision to take at that point. After taking my uncle's and close friend (both doctors) suggestion we went ahead.

I have to write about how Sid was doing all along. After the first ten minutes, he was quite settled and almost normal. His maturity sometimes make me ashamed.

He happily went into the OT to get the suturing. There were a few staff waiting to hold him down incase he resists. There was hardly any need for it,  he was super cool. Somehow the image of this happy child getting into the OT broke me down. I was waiting impatiently outside. A good 30 min later, they got him out. He slowly came out of sedation and was back to his usual self in an hours time. In fact, he liked the room so much that he wanted to stay for a few more days.

The suture was removed last week and he is back to school now. It was one hell of a week !

All part of growing up. Love you Sid. You are strong and you make me strong everyday.

The year that went by - 2014

Last year was a mix of happenings. Well, so is every year! Gist of them chronologically (inspired from Ani) for posterity.

Jan -  High point was completing the blogathon successfully.

Feb - Celebrated parents wedding anniversary together. Happy times. Made new friends.

March - Started swimming classes for Sid. Had a low key celebration on his birthday. Lost a cousin and Bhaiya's little one. Tragic. Ani had asked me to write a letter to Sid on his birthday - which I hope to do at least during the blogathon.

April - Trip to Kannur. Family still coming to terms with the loss.

May - Back to moms place. Joined a swimming class there (although we could go only for 5 days) to help Sid get comfortable in water. Learnt swimming (if I can call mine so) - this was something I thought I can never do in life. Was able to help Sid with his swimming after we came back. He is only getting better by the day now!

June - Sid joins regular school. Huge change from the earlier alternate education system he was going to. He adapted quickly. Got myself a work from home job. Teaching online. Love my job!

July - Crossed the age I was dreading to. Nothing much happened. I was getting more involved with my work.

Aug - Trip to Coorg with friends. Had fun.

Sep, Oct -Enjoyed Golu (and loads of food) at mom's place. Took a break from work (that's the best part of my job). Little Sid started going down to the play in our apartment on his own.

Nov - My brother came to India after a long time. Had an amazing time with family! (Re)Started waking up early and jogging. Joined back to work.

Dec - Lost another cousin. Christmas vacation and New Year at Kerala. Spent quality time with family  although the mood was grey.

Looking back, I can only think of how fast an year seems to have whizzed past.  I should definitely take time to write more often.

Happy New Year!

Wishing all the readers (any left?) a very Happy New Year.

I cannot even begin to tell how I feel for having neglected my space all of last year. Let me save beating myself up for another post. Thanks to Seema, I am back here. Last year was quite eventful - challenging, happy and sometimes low. Will write about it all in the coming days - hopefully.

Christmas and New Year Vacation had us travelling to our native and hence joining the marathon late. Hope that's okay :)

Bhaiya, Bhabi and little prince coming here tomorrow. Yay! Looking forward to all the fun.

Skip

I was filling some online form and Sid was watching it intently. All of a sudden he moved a little away from me and started jumping and waving his hand up and down. Little surprised, I asked him what happened. He happily pointed to me the boldly written word next to the submit button - SKIP.
It took a while for me to stop laughing. I joined the fun and we skipped together.

Love you Sid :)

Candle light dinner and Carrot soup

Sid loves candle light dinners at home. It is one sure fire way to get him to the table and enjoy his dinner. Here is one with carrot soup to start with :)

Carrot Soup

The soup is an easy one to make. Sauté carrots with a dash of ginger and puree them. Add milk (with coriander if you prefer) with salt/pepper to taste. That's it, you have a brightly colored healthy soup ready!

Blogathon

The last 29 days (well, I started on the 3rd) was exciting to say the least.  I was so involved in the blogathon that I forgot it ends today! Had a couple of ideas for the next few days and have posted them all today. Also, that should compensate for the 2 days I missed :)

Writing regularly was something I had long forgotten, thanks to this challenge, I am renewing it.  Many thanks to Ani for giving me this new direction and a huge round of applause to Maya for this initiative, without which this blog wouldn't have seen 30 posts even in a year!

Blogathon has given me more reasons to reflect on the day and to pause and absorb the happenings around me. Have also been lucky to get to know some amazing blogs out there.

Altogether a wonderful start to the wonderful year ahead!

Park and Play

Sid's sleep pattern has changed in the last one week. He has clearly told me not to ask him to sleep in the afternoon. So we are spending a lot of uninterrupted time together. Despite the fact that my me time has gone for a toss, I am completely enjoying it!
The last couple of days was spent building this car park (ideas from here). The ramp is quite steep, but Sid doesn't seem to mind.

Car Park

It still needs some colors which we will add in the next couple of days. It was quite easy to build and Sid enjoyed all the cutting and pasting parts.

Gym

I was the kind who hated gym. Why would someone want to use machines to work out? A walk in the park or a zumba/aerobics session would do ...
